Ambergris Caye – San Pedro
Family Accommodations Recommendations
Ramons Village Resort - offers Jungle family cabanas for families. We had two interconnecting rooms. Both rooms had intermittent issues with air conditioner and hot water. The mini room was tiny, with a full bed. The deluxe queen has two queen size beds and definitely enough room for our children to throw all of their clothes all over the room. We didn’t love the hotel, but the location is unbeatable - probably the closest property to the center of town to take a walk, great water and tour services and activities, restaurant and gift shop on site.
Banyan Bay Suites - furnished 2 and 3 bedroom villas. Located South of San Pedro, about 10 min. golf cart ride to center of town.
Xanadu Island Resort - "eco-friendly" resort offering one, two and three-bedroom suites. No restaurant on site, but there is a supermarket and a bakery nearby.
There are a few more condo style lodging options in San Pedro: Caribbean Villas, Grand Colony, The Phoenix (a luxury option), The Palms, Pelican Reef among others on the South Side. Captain Morgan and White Sands Cove are older properties, North of town, across a toll bridge that you need to pay each time you cross. I prefer South of downtown location, but it's a matter of taste.
Most of the hotels do not have swimming beaches, which does not mean you can’t lounge on the beach, get your feet wet, or even take a dip in the water. Swimming is available at the pool or off the piers of the hotels if it has one

Book your tour when you get to San Pedro - there are a lot of operators to chose from.

Look around for the tour that suits you. Some take you snorkeling, make a stop at Caulker Caye, cook your fish for you - you name it.

Restaurants
Restaurants get busy at night, so I would strongly recommend making an advanced reservation if you would like to eat at a restaurant of your choice.
Elvi's Kitchen - my favorite. Great curry, good menu selection.
El Fogon - a big disappointment. It's considered as specializing in "the Authentic Belizian old fashioned way of cooking with fire wood in the open". I was really looking forward to dining here. The restaurant was packed, the fire wood oven was never lit, my curry was bland and I just didn't think it lived up to the expectation for the price.
Wild Mango's - beautiful setting on the beach. A good lunch spot.
Blue Water Grill - great setting on the beach. We came here for lunch a few times. Good burgers, fresh mixed seafood ceviche, and most importantly - good Margaritas.
Caramba! Restaurant - while we didn't get to eat there, we walked by a fresh seafood display which looked very appealing. We were debating between Caramba! or going back to Elvi's on our last night, and ended up at Elvi's. But this would've definitely been on my list.
Hungry Grouper - ranks high on TA. We stopped by, but the plastic menus with pictures didn't do for us. Who knows, we may have missed a great dinner!
